Project Report (Final Version)

You will must submit your final report online.

The following is the grading rubric for the final report. Follow this when writing your report.

Every item is worth 1 point.

Title

  1. Describes the contribution of the project
  2. Abstract

  3. Describes conclusion of the work
  4. Describes how conclusion was reached
  5. Introduction

  6. Covers relevant aspects of the research area
  7. Succinct and easy to follow
  8. Research question follows naturally
  9. Research Question

  10. Is a question
  11. Has implications beyond a specific task and yes/no answer
  12. Related Work

  13. 5-7 highly related academic papers are cited
  14. Describes the contributions of mentioned related work
  15. Connects proposed work to related work
  16. Hypothesis & Mechanism

  17. Has implications beyond a specific task and yes/no answer
  18. Incudes rationale that connects research question to contribution
  19. Contribution

  20. Clearly stated and is a meaningful contribution to the field of Interaction Design Research
  21. Implementation

  22. Novel algorithmic contribution (i.e. not all code was glue code) OR novel system was built out of extant tools OR well-described and executed statistical analysis of HCI-relevant collection method (e.g., survey)
  23. Original work is described in enough detail that a similar system could be prototyped by the reader
  24. Method

  25. Is a good match for the research question
  26. Experimental method is clearly described
  27. Experimental method is maximally simple
  28. Measures

  29. Correct set of measures
  30. Measures (and data clearning e.g., dropouts) clearly stated
  31. Measures decide truth of hypothesis
  32. Risk & Limitations

  33. Risks and limitations are explicitly stated
  34. Work is structured to minimize stated risks
  35. Results

  36. Results described crisply in line with hypothesis
  37. Appropriate statistical tests (e.g. CHI squared, t-test, ANOVA) are reported.
  38. Data Presentation

  39. Great use of data visualization techniques (charts, graphs) to bring out the point clearly without parsing through long text
  40. Captions summarize the primary takeaway of the figure
  41. Analysis and Discussion

  42. Detailed analysis of results
  43. Shows good understanding of the entire process by working back from results to hypothesis, teases apart data to ask more questions
  44. Future Work

  45. Set of next steps which will continue from this work
  46. Ties in well with larger research question
  47. Conclusion

  48. Affirms that claims made in introduction have been delivered and summarizes the contributions of the work
  49. Coherence & Length

  50. Paper is 3-5 pages and are in the CHI two-column format. Surveys (if used) are included in the appendix
  51. Everything fits - your paper is coherent and the individual parts conceptually well-synthesized
