Interaction Design Research
Project Report (Final Version)
You will must submit your final report online.
The following is the grading rubric for the final report. Follow this when writing your report.
Every item is worth 1 point.Title
- Describes the contribution of the project
- Describes conclusion of the work
- Describes how conclusion was reached
- Covers relevant aspects of the research area
- Succinct and easy to follow
- Research question follows naturally
- Is a question
- Has implications beyond a specific task and yes/no answer
- 5-7 highly related academic papers are cited
- Describes the contributions of mentioned related work
- Connects proposed work to related work
- Has implications beyond a specific task and yes/no answer
- Incudes rationale that connects research question to contribution
- Clearly stated and is a meaningful contribution to the field of Interaction Design Research
- Novel algorithmic contribution (i.e. not all code was glue code) OR novel system was built out of extant tools OR well-described and executed statistical analysis of HCI-relevant collection method (e.g., survey)
- Original work is described in enough detail that a similar system could be prototyped by the reader
- Is a good match for the research question
- Experimental method is clearly described
- Experimental method is maximally simple
- Correct set of measures
- Measures (and data clearning e.g., dropouts) clearly stated
- Measures decide truth of hypothesis
- Risks and limitations are explicitly stated
- Work is structured to minimize stated risks
- Results described crisply in line with hypothesis
- Appropriate statistical tests (e.g. CHI squared, t-test, ANOVA) are reported.
- Great use of data visualization techniques (charts, graphs) to bring out the point clearly without parsing through long text
- Captions summarize the primary takeaway of the figure
- Detailed analysis of results
- Shows good understanding of the entire process by working back from results to hypothesis, teases apart data to ask more questions
- Set of next steps which will continue from this work
- Ties in well with larger research question
- Affirms that claims made in introduction have been delivered and summarizes the contributions of the work
- Paper is 3-5 pages and are in the CHI two-column format. Surveys (if used) are included in the appendix
- Everything fits - your paper is coherent and the individual parts conceptually well-synthesized
